Comments (-1) Division News School Board Meeting On Tuesday, February 1, the Frederick County School Board will meet at 6:00 p.m. (Closed Session) / 7:00 p.m. (Public Session) at the FCPS Administration Building. Seating for the meeting will be limited and made available on a first-come, first-served basis with no one being allowed to save seats. Doors to the FCPS Administration Building will open at 5:30 p.m. for those wishing to attend. Comments (-1) Update on Mask Requirement The School Board voted on January 20 to require all individuals aged two and older to wear face coverings inside all FCPS schools, facilities and buses/vehicles effective Monday, January 24, and to have the Superintendent continue to review data related to COVID-19 within Frederick County and re-evaluate the need for mitigation strategies, including the face covering requirement, when the data suggests revisions may be advisable. Comments (-1) 2022-23 Kindergarten Registration FCPS will be conducting kindergarten registration for the 2022-23 school year in two phases this year. Comments (-1) Health and Safety Plan Revision The FCPS Health and Safety Plan has been revised to reflect the following: School visitors are prohibited from eating lunch with students and/or staff due to the high COVID-19 transmission rates being experienced within the community and the fact that individuals do not wear face coverings while actively eating and drinking. This additional mitigation strategy will assist the school division as it works to continue to be able to offer in-person learning. This change will be reevaluated when the data suggests a revision may be advisable. Comments (-1) 2022 General Assembly Many bills that could impact public schools in Virginia will be considered during the 2022 General Assembly. Comments (-1) 2021-22 School Calendar Changes The Frederick County School Board has again revised the 2021-22 School Calendar to make Wednesday, February 16; Wednesday, April 6; and Wednesday, May 4; Early Release Planning Days. On those days as well as Wednesday, February 2; Wednesday, March 2; and Wednesday, March 16, high school students will be dismissed at Noon, middle school students will be dismissed at 12:15 p.m. and elementary school students will be dismissed at 1:00 p.m. Comments (-1) Elementary Health Textbook Adoption Elementary schools are in the process of adopting a new health textbook program for use from 2022-2029. The proposed textbooks are available for review. Comments (-1) Inclement Weather Reminder Frederick County Public Schools currently has no plans to use inclement weather days as virtual learning days during the 2021-22 school year. Instead, such days will be a No School Day. Comments (-1) Return to Learn Plan The purpose of the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act Elementary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) III Fund is to help safely reopen and sustain the safe operation of schools and address the impacts of COVID-19 on the nation's students by addressing students' academic, social, emotional and mental health needs.
